PNC NSamarTACLOBAN CITY - Recognizing the role of Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in improving the health situation in communities, Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) Chairperson and Governor Edwin Marino Ongchuan of Northern Samar has approved a resolution that would provide benefits and incentives for the continuing service of BNS.

The resolution passed by the PNC was approved during its First Quarter Meeting at D’ Lemon Grass Restobar on March 24, 2021 and will be endorsed to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Council for the enactment of the corresponding ordinance.  

"This moves seeks to ensure the continuity of incentives given BNS as well as to recognize their outstanding performance and services," the Northern Samar Provincial Information Office (NSPIO) said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

The resolution recommended the payment PhP300 per month and additional incentive of up to PhP300 depending on the performance of BNS, from the provincial government.

This is on top of the honorarium they receive from barangay and the local government unit, the NSPIO stated.

Moreover, the resolution also supports the grant of other benefits to BNS who perform their duties actively and regularly as certified by the Nutrition Action Officer, midwife, or the Punong Barangay of their respective areas.

These include loyalty incentive of up to PhP4,000 depending on the years of service, PhilHealth Insurance Coverage, Medical and Dental benefits, free legal assistance, and BNS Convention.

The NSPIO said SP Committee on Health Chairperson Dr. Mary Ann Avalon assured that she will sponsor the ordinance following the standard process of enacting the policy which includes public consultation certification of available funds from the Local Finance Committee.

A total of 711 BNSs in twenty-four (24) municipalities of Norther Samar is said to benefit with the approved resolution.

Presidential Decree 1569 mandates the deployment of one BNS in every barangay in the country to monitor the nutritional status of children and facilitate in the delivery of nutrition and nutrition related services. #NASLabordo
