NIEM Zumarraga March2021Palo, Leyte- members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee of Zumarraga, Samar attended and crafted the Nutrition in Emergency Plan during its three-day Training on Nutrition in Emergency conducted on March 3-5, 2021 at the Casa Cristina Hotel, Catbalogan City.

Aimed to build resilience to natural and human induced disasters, the Plan International organized and sponsored the training for Zumarraga. “We would like to build resilience among girls, boys, young women and men living in high-risk areas” said by Mr. Welson L. Ramos, the Provincial Supervisor, Western Samar Program Area.

In her message, Vice Mayor Analyn M. Ojeda emphasized that the efforts made by Plan International is very relevant and will help in crafting the plan specifically during emergencies.

Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, Mr. Leonardo Letaba mentioned that the training is timely as the municipality is in the process of making the big plan, the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan for the municipality.

Meanwhile, RNPC Dr. Catalino Dotollo, Jr. acknowledged the effort made by the LGU and its partner NGO, Plan International in organizing the training. He shared that the essential service components for the DRRM-for health should be put in one with the inclusion of other components to include medical and public health, water sanitation and hygiene, mental health and psychosocial support which shall be available and accessible before during and after emergencies and disasters.

The training captured four modules facilitated by the National Nutrition Council 8 with Dr. Dotollo as team leader with NOIII Nino Archie Labordo and NOIII Ullasini Pangan-Alferez as resource speakers and training facilitators.

Plan International a humanitarian, child centered, and development organization has been in Zumarraga for about nine years already. As an island municipality in Samar, Plan International provided different programs and activities to include Disaster Risk Management, Youth Economic Empowerment, Nutrition Responsive Care and Child Protection.# NASLabordo
