SDSButuan City – Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs) of the 18 local government units of Surigao Del Sur convened for a face-to-face meeting on March 8, 2022, at Gold Bar Function Hall, Tandag City.

In her presentation, PNAO Emerlinda Ascarez shared the provincial nutrition situation, particularly the prevalence of stunting, wasting, and underweight among 0-59 months children. In the list, the Municipality of Lianga ranked first in all of the indicators: underweight, stunting and wasting.

NNC Caraga, Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo challenged the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur to identify and prioritize LGUs listed with a high prevalence of stunting and wasting. He likewise encouraged every local government unit (LGU) to put budget for the first 1,000 days program of a child’s life.


On the other hand, Nutrition Officer II Leah Vina Vargas discussed the key features of Monitoring and Evaluation on Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro for both LGU and the local nutrition focal persons. She emphasized the key parameters in the performance of nutrition worker management functions through coordination, advocacy, and promotion, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, resource generation, documentation and record-keeping, and capacity development.

Meanwhile, PNFP Julianne Janine Carrillo presented the new features of Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus at the barangay level and discussed the overview and functions of the OPT Plus. She also reminded everyone of the timeline of the assessment, integration and submission.

In addition, OIC-RNPC Labordo encouraged more LGUs and nutrition focal persons to submit for monitoring and evaluation.  He emphasized that the MELLPI is an avenue to learn and progress in nutrition program implementation.

The First Quarter Meeting was also attended by the Provincial Nutrition Committee of the Province of Surigao del Sur. #PNFPCarrillo
