Staff of the NNC CALABARZON and NNC MIMAROPA offices had the opportunity to learn the basics of photography from Mr. Joy Hermogenes and Ms. Arvie Miranda last August 18, 2014. Lessons included the importance of photography in journalism; insight into the different parts of the camera; manipulating aspects such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to adjust exposure; and using guidelines such as the rule of thirds, perspective, vantage points, and framing to properly compose pictures. Ms. Hannah Christina Clemente and Mr. Marciano S. Cruz of NNC CALABARZON, and Mr. Edwin Daryl Dy and Mr. Allan T. Dolor of NNC MIMAROPA were chosen to be the primary and back up photographers for each office respectively.
The skills Mr. Hermogenes and Ms. Miranda imparted are essential in the documentation of the different events that both offices hold allowing them to tell the stories and better raise awareness for the nutrition situation in their respective regions. Mr. Hermogenes and Ms. Miranda also gave a small introduction to cinematography and tips on how to improve the documentation capabilities of the offices such as recommending additional equipment and offering refreshers for free at his studio for those who are genuinely interested in learning photography. To end the lessons, Ms. Miranda left the offices with the thought that making great pictures relies on the archer and not the bow referring to the skill of the photographer being more important than the camera itself.
