CALAMBA CITY – Five mayors from Quezon Province expressed their  all-out support  for the  Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 by wearing the PPAN advocacy jacket  with the caption “#MayorforPPAN” which they recently posted on FB. Indicated in the other side of their jackets are the phrase “End all forms of malnutrition” -- the objective of the PPAN 2017-2022.

The mayors  include: Honorable Webster Letargo (Gumaca); Honorable Eliseo Ruzol (General Nakar);   Honorable Macario Boongaling (General Nakar);  Honorable Marcelo Gayeta (Sariaya); Honorable Ernida Reynoso (Tayabas City).

A total of 1,250 pregnant women  of San Mateo, Rizal   and Rodriguez, Rizal    will soon be availing  of the upcoming “Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program” for malnourished pregnant women.

The program specifically intended for the implementation of the Early Childhood Care and Development Program in the First 1000 Days (ECCD F1K) to prevent child stunting,  is spearheaded by  the National Nutrition Council  in collaboration with the Interagency Task Force on Zero Hunger. Earlier, coordination meetings were conducted by Ms. Carina  Santiago (RNPC),  together with  Ms. Ma. Jhonnadelle Ritz Castillo and Ms. Mary Emerene Pingo (the Provincial Nutrition Coordinators, PNC of Rizal) with the  LGUs of San Mateo and Rodriguez  to discuss and plan the specifics of the program.

Bilang isa sa hakbang ng pamahalaan upang tuluyang maprotektahan ang mga mamamayan laban sa COVID-19 ay ang pagbabakuna. Ang mga bakuna ay nakikipagtulungan sa natural na mga depensa ng iyong katawan upang ang iyong katawan ay magiging handa upang labanan ang virus, kung ikaw ay nalantad sa COVID-19. Ito ay maaaring makatulong para maiwasan ang pagdami ng kaso sa bansa para tuluyan na magkaroon ng wakas ang pandemyang ito.

Ayon sa mga eksperto, ang pagkakaroon ng COVID-19 na bakuna ay maaaring tumulong para maiwasan ang pagkakaroon ng seryosong sakit kahit pa ikaw ay magkaroon ng COVID-19. Ang mga bakunang ito ay hindi makakapagbigay sa iyo ng mismong sakit.

NNC Calabarzon participated in the virtual “Stakeholders’ Consultation on the Implementation of Special Health Fund (SHF)”  last March 30 and 31  to have a  deeper understanding of “Universal Health Care (UHC) Act”  (RA 11223);  and to  introduce the implementation of the SHF through the “Guidelines on the Allocation, Utilization and Monitoring of  and Accountability for the SHF”.

The consultation also tackled:  the policies and procedures on the utilization of the  SHF; the 58 “Universal Health Care Integration Site” of the UHC Law;  and  the “Role of the Local Health Board and LGU Functionaries on Planning and Budgeting of Program, Project and Activities (PPAs) for SHF”.

Twenty-four (24)  BNS presidents of the various provincial and city BNS associations in the region participated in the first 2021 meeting of  the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholar in Region IV-A (FBNS-4A) last March 31, via zoom.  

Thru  Ms. Carina Santiago,  RNPC, her NNC Calabarzon staff, and  in partnership with Ms. Milagros Valera, FBNS IV-A President of Laguna Province -- the members of the federation  agreed to come up with a Memorandum of Agreement  (MOA) for the activities that were taken up and agreed upon in the meeting.

In commemoration of the celebration of “World Health Worker Week,” grateful appreciation is given by NNC Calabarzon to all the nutrition stakeholders in the region, including the BNSs of Region IV-A who are also sacrificing and dedicating their lives in the forefront in the battle against Covid-19.

According to the President of the Federation of Barangay Nutrition Scholar in Region IV-A (FBNS-4A), Ms. Milagros Valera, “Besides delivery of nutrition services, the BNS are also assigned to assist in COVID- 19 vaccination roll outs, checkpoints, and demographic collection for distribution of Social Amelioration Program.”
