The League of Nutrition Action Officers of Region 1, Inc. (RLNAOs) elected its new set of officers to govern the league for CY 2021-2023. The election was conducted during the annual general assembly held last March 4, 2021 via Zoom.
Mr. Kendall Gatan, Officer-in-Charge of the National Nutrition Council-Regional office I proposed and presented the 2021 special election policy of RLNAOs in the context of COVID-19 pandemic and was unanimously approved and adopted by the body.

The League of Nutrition Action Officers of Region 1, Inc. (RLNAOs) in coordination with the National Nutrition Council Regional Office 1(NNC-ROI) successfully held its 2021 General Assembly via Zoom on March 4, 2021. Around 90 nutrition action officers from the provinces, cities and municipalities of region 1 attended the said activity.
Mr. Kendall Gatan, Officer-in-Charge of NNC-ROI graced and opened the said virtual event and expressed his gratitude to all the local nutrition action officers for their continuous nutrition actions despite all the risks due to the public health emergency.
“This pandemic changes our way of work and all the actions of the league need to be strategized and modified to help contribute to addressing the treat of this pandemic to our nutrition situation. This is a big challenge to all of us especially to the soon to be elected regional officers of RLNAOs” he said.

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Dec. 31 (Anne Hazel Flores, PIA-1) -- Eleven local nutrition workers completed the e-Learning course conducted by the National Nutrition Council (NNC-1) in the Ilocos and received their certificates via a virtual closing ceremony on Dec. 22.
The six-week course dubbed as: e-Learning Course on Nutrition in Emergencies and Information Management which started on Nov. 3 is aimed to enhance the competencies of local nutrition workers on the implementation of nutrition programs during emergencies as well as managing the data or information.
NNC-1 awarded the certificates to the graduates namely: Elma Irapta, Christina Caroy, Sunshine Tangoyab, Helbert Piol, Josephine Ruedas, and Rodolfo Ragadi from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte; Mercy Lenn Arzadon and Ma. Christine Dumlao from Don Mariano Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center; Kristine Joy Soriano from the Municipal Government of Calasiao; Gael Myca Abella from the Department of Science and Technology; and Jason Austria from the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center.

The National Nutrition Council Regional Office 1 successfully spearheaded the review of the 2020 implementation of the Regional Plan of Action (RPAN) for Nutrition held on February 10-11, 2021 via zoom. The said activity was attended by the members of the Regional Nutrition Committee thru its Technical Working Group and representatives from the Local Government Units and Regional Federations including local media group.
The activity highlighted the presentation of LGUs reports, 2020 Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus results, 2019 Highlights of the Expanded National Nutrition Survey (eNNS) and RPAN Accomplishments report followed by a workshop on retargeting and identifying of gaps, challenges, and implementation of the plan.

Good news for pregnant women as they are targeted to receive additional meals and food commodities to improve their nutrition. This was bared during the soft launch of the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program with Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles and National Nutrition Council Executive Director Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang on 23 November at the NNC Headquarters. Tutok Kainan program will provide the Enhanced Nutribun, ready-to-eat lipid-based nutritional supplement and hot meals for three months starting December this year. The program will initially target some 34,000 nutritionally at-risk pregnant women in provinces that have high rates of child stunting and areas affected by recent typhoons. By next year, the program hopes to expand to include malnourished children 6-23 months old.

The National Nutrition Council released the Interim Guidelines in the Conduct of OPT Plus, Nutrition Screening, Growth Monitoring and Promotion (GMP) Activities in the context of COVID-19 Pandemic and other related disasters on January 4, 2021 through Memorandum No. 10 S. 2021 which will serve as guide among the Local Government Units in the conduct of the said nutrition assessment for 2021.
This is in line with the provisions of DOH-Department Circular 2020-0167 Continuous Provision of Essential Health Services during the COVID-19 Epidemic and DOH-Department Memorandum 2020-0237 Interim Guidelines for the Delivery of Nutrition Services in the Context of COVID-19 Pandemic Under Growth and Monitoring.
