The National Nutrition Council Region I joins the advocacy of the Department of Health (DOH) in diffusing the hypertension threat in the country as centered on the observance of the National Hypertension Awareness Month.

The month of May is delegated by DOH as the “Hypertension Awareness Month”, by virtue of Proclamation No. 1761 signed on May 1, 2009, to improve the cognizance of Filipinos about its significant risks, signs, and symptoms as well as its prevention and management.

Sa labing anim (16) na taon bilang BNS, ginawa ko ang lahat ang mga natatanging roles and functions ng isang nahirang na BNS sa abot ng aking makakaya, na walang inaasahang kapalit na monetary reward.

March 18, 2022- The League of Nutrition Action Officers of Region 1 Incorporated (RLNAOs) in close coordination with the National Nutrition Council -Region 1 successfully conducted its Nutrition Forum and Annual General Assembly held via Zoom. This was attended by a total of 83 members and other local partners from all the 4 provinces and 9 cities of Region 1.  

Mr. Kendall Pilgrim Gatan, OIC-Nutrition Program Coordinator welcomed the participants during the event with a heart-warming message of appreciation to all nutrition action officers in the services rendered for nutrition especially in the time of pandemic.

21 April 2022-- The National Nutrition Council Region I in partnership with the Local Government of San Carlos City and the Provincial Health Office of Pangasinan successfully spearheaded the blended Ceremonial Launching of the Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program - Phase 2 for Pangasinan Province held at Kevin's Resort and Restaurant in San Carlos City attended by more than 160 guests and beneficiaries and more than 150 online participants.

Assistant Secretary Azucena M. Dayanghirang, Executive Director of NNC virtually graced the launching activity and emphasized in her inspirational message the objectives of the project as the NNC’s response to the nutritional needs of the Filipinos in this time of COVID-19 Pandemic which also operationalizes RA 11148 or the Kalusugan at Nutrisyon gn Magnanay Act.


On March 18, 2020, the President signed Proclamation No. 930 declaring the second week of March of every year as Philippine Digestive Health Week to increase awareness and educate the public on the prevention and management of various diseases and conditions relating to digestive health. In the Philippines, among the leading causes of death are related to the digestive tract, which includes among others, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, peptic ulcer disease, diarrhea, and stomach cancer.

The digestive system is made up of the digestive tract and other organs that help the body break down and absorb food. It is a long, twisting tube that starts at the mouth and goes through the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

The National Nutrition Council Region I joins the 2022 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) with its 6-year theme “We Make Change Work for Women: Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran”.

The celebration coincides with the worldwide observance of International Women’s Day (IWD) which was first celebrated on 19 March (not the later 8 March), 1911.  In the Philippines, former President Corazon C. Aquino signed Proclamation No. 224 s. 1988 on 1 March, declaring the first week of March each year as Women’s Week and 8 March as Women’s Rights and International Peace Day. Then on 17 March 1988, she signed Proclamation No. 227 s. 1988 providing for the observance of March as Women’s Role in History Month. On 10 April 1990, she signed Republic Act (RA) 6949 an act declaring 8 March of every year as a Special Working Holiday known as National Women’s Day.
