As an annual activity, the National Nutrition Council holds a prestigious ceremony to give recognition and appreciation to its active partners in nutrition.
Before the conduct of the awarding ceremony in the regional level or as called: Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC), the regional and local interagency committees conduct the annual MELLPI Pro including the Search for Local Nutrition Focal Points. MELLPI and BNS evaluation are institutionalized activities of the national, regional and local nutrition committees since 1979 and in 2019 as transition year, the MELLPI Pro was fully adopted.
The Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro is designed to monitor and evaluate the performance of local government units (LGUs) in promoting nutrition security vis-à-vis nutrition outcomes. Results of the MELLPI Pro aim to guide policy and decision-makers to enhance nutrition products, services and delivery systems towards improved effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability.
Moreover, final results from the MELLPI Pro will be the basis of the RNAC.
Due to safety and restrictions brought by the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic last year, all monitoring and evaluation activities were suspended in 2020 and resumed in 2021 with strict consideration to existing health protocols. The 2021 monitoring and evaluation was held virtually but with the lifting of stricter protocols this 2022, all monitoring and evaluation activities was conducted face-to-face including results deliberation.
This evaluation also culminates with the recognition of LGUs, nutrition focal points and other stakeholders with excellent performance in nutrition program management and implementation as well as delivery of nutrition services to the communities through the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony or now renamed in Region 1 as Gawad Parangal ng Nutrisyon since 2018.
