Research Agenda Picture consultation 2018

The National Nutrition Council held a consultation workshop of its regional and central offices, and national partners on 01 August 2018 and 02 October 2018, respectively at the NNC Board Room to discuss the development of the first complementary nutrition research agenda of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN).

Representatives of the NNC regional and central offices brainstormed to identify research topics and themes in their respective regions and units to be included in the agenda for 2018-2022. Some themes are along nutrition programs in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas or GIDAs, indigenous people concern and implementation of the First 1000 Days program, to name a few.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed on 29 November Republic Act 11148 “An Act Scaling up the National and Local Health and Nutrition Programs through a Strengthened Integrated Strategy for Maternal, Neonatal, Child Health and Nutrition in the First One Thousand (1,000) Days of Life” or otherwise known as the “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay Act”.

The law strengthens the national and local health and nutrition programs for pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, infants and young children in the first 1,000 days. The Act which consolidated Senate Bill No. 1537 “The Healthy Nanay and Bulilit” Act and House Bill No. 5777 “Kalusugan at Nutrisyon ng Mag-Nanay” Act was passed by the Senate and House of Representatives on 17 September 2018 and 19 September 2018 respectively.

Photo LNEWS ArticleThe National Nutrition Council (NNC), in its effort to build capacities of LGUs, once again, conducted a series of capacity-building activities for Local Nutrition Early Warning System (LNEWS) Core Group and Program Implementation Review (PIR) among LNEWS core group in ECCD areas. The PIR was conducted on 04-05 October 2018 at Atrium Hotel in Manila, among LGU partners in the ECCD areas to determine the factors affecting the implementation of LNEWS-FNS; and to determine adjustments to improve its implementation.

Around 50 participants, that included the LNEWS-FNS Core Group members of 10 ECCD areas, Nutrition Program Coordinators (NPCs) of NNC Regional Offices concerned, and ECCD F1K Provincial Nutrition Coordinators (PNCs) participated in the activity. This resulted in a comprehensive assessment of LNEWS-FNS implementation at the local level, which will be used by NNC to determine next steps and action points regarding the LNEWS-FNS implementation and expansion.
