The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Technical Committee selected this year’s Nutrition Month theme. After thorough review by the NNC Secretariat and Technical Committee of the 142 entries received by the NNC, the chosen theme for this year’s Nutrition Month campaign is “Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!,” an entry sent by Ms. Julie Ann Q. Colipano of Valencia City, Bukidnon.
The NNC also conducted a Logo Design Contest and from the 35 entries submitted, the logo sent by Architect Ricky R. Mojica of Indang, Cavite gained the NNC Technical Committee’s vote. The logo depicts a family cultivating a family food garden, a picture that the NNC hopes Filipinos would turn into reality.
As mandated by Presidential Decree No. 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines, the NNC coordinates the nationwide celebration of Nutrition Month every July in order to increase awareness of Filipinos on pressing nutrition concerns. In January 2018, the NNC encouraged Filipinos aged 15 years old and above to propose a theme that would encapsulate the message of family food gardening. The campaign aims to contribute to improved food and nutrition security by increasing access to a diversified source of food for families and communities alike, as well as improved incomes through sales from home-grown produce. Moreover, the Nutrition Month campaign is also an opportunity to promote the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022 to address malnutrition in the country.
National government agencies, local government units, NGOs and communities are encouraged to participate in the campaign. We encourage everyone to regularly visit the NNC’s website www.nnc.gov.ph and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/nncofficial/ for updates.
