Hotel Veniz, Baguio City – The Philippine Society of Nutritionist-Dietitian (PSND), Inc. held its annual convention on 4-5 April 2013. It was overflowing with participants from different regions of the Philippines. Ms. Ma Eileen B. Blanco, OIC-Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator and auditor of PSND, together with Mr. Frederich Christian S. Tan, Nutrition Officer III of NNC Mimaropa attended the convention.

PSND 1During the discussion, Hon. Virgith Buena, Chairperson of PRC Board of Examiners for Nutrition and Dietetics, talked about Nutrition Professionals being visible and competent. With the increasing number of unemployment, even we Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians are included in this growing number. Hon. Buena emphasizes the importance of promoting and marketing ourselves as a professional and making a brand that would package and showcase our talents and skills as nutrition experts. We should be confident of our competencies as this would lead us to our dream jobs. So what are we waiting for? Let’s start marketing ourselves and show our worth. The time is now!

PSND 2Another topic discussed was “What’s your worth? Knowing your rate and asking for it” by Ms. Jeaneth Acuna-Aro, a Registered Nutritionist-Dietitian, and President of Nutrifit, a Fitness and Nutrition Consultancy Service Provider. She mentioned that it is really difficult to determine how much you are going to charge for your Professional Fee (PF) but the more important question that you need to consider is “What can you offer? Do you have the necessary skills and knowledge to do the nutrition counseling/coaching?” These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself before considering your PF rate because these go hand in hand, your fee should be based on what you know and your skills.

Ms. Aro also shared her success story as an entrepreneur in opening her business “Nutrifit”. She mentioned that you need to first have clear VISION of what you want to become and achieve because this would help you draw your map to success. Next is having the PASSION on what you do, as this is very hard to be taught. You also need to possess EXCELLENCE; this can be done by continuously honing our knowledge and skills. And lastly you need to have a big HEART in your endeavors as this would set the bar a notch higher. With these in mind, it would show your true worth. Packaging oneself is really important since this determines if clients would continue to patronage your expertise/services.
