Thousands of BNSs attend Bohol Provincial SummitBohol province – More than one thousand barangay nutrition scholars (BNSs) attended the 15th BNS Provincial Summit themed “Barangay Nutrition Scholar, Prime Movers of Good Nutrition through Healthy Eating”. The summit was held on 28 March 2017 at the Panglao Cultural Center, Panglao, Bohol.

NNC 7 Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Parolita A. Mission in her keynote address spoke about the importance of healthy eating as a measure to prevent chronic non-communicable diseases particularly cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension which is very common among teenagers and adults alike nowadays. She emphasized the importance of following the 10 Kumainments and Pinggang Pinoy as guide to achieve proper nutrition and good health. Dr. Mission further emphasized the role of the BNSs in promoting health and reducing malnutrition being the prime movers of nutrition in the barangays.

World Vision conducts IYCF Training for MoalboalMoalboal, Cebu – World Vision Development Foundation Incorporated with the help of the Cebu Provincial Nutrition Council conducted a three (3) Day Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Training on 14 to 16 March 2017 at the Eveskiosk, Basdiot, Moalboal, Cebu.

The forty-seven (47) participants were composed of Barangay Captains, Barangay Secretaries, Barangay Kagawads, Midwives and Barangay Nutrition Scholars along with the NDP Nurses assigned in Moalboal. Barangays represented included the barangays of Agbalanga, Balabagan, Balabagon, Basdiot, Basolot, Bugho, Busay, Poblacion East, Poblacion West, Polo and Tunga.

ECCD F1K Municipalities of Cebu Province Ready to Full BlastCebu Province – The municipalities of Santa Fe, Tuburan, and Dalaguete are in full gear towards the full implementation of the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCD-F1K) Program after completing the social preparation and other introductory activities.

Such preparatory activities included the advocacy meetings with the local chief executives, community assemblies, meetings with local implementers, signing of the memorandum of agreements, local nutrition planning workshops, preparation and approval of the work and financial plans, consultation-dialogues with local finance committees and other related activities.

Dagan Para Sa Gatas Ni NanayCebu Philippines – Breastfeeding is one of the advocacies of the National Nutrition Council. Through its various partners and networks, NNC 7 has conducted various events, trainings, seminars, conferences, counseling and other activities to further promote the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding.

One such initiative is the advocacy run dubbed “Dagan Para sa Gatas ni Nanay” which will be held on 19 March 2017 at the Pueblo Verde, Lapu-Lapu City. This activity is spearheaded by L.A.T.C.H (Lactation, Attachment, Training, Counseling and Help) in partnership with AboitizLand.The run will begin at 4 p.m. inside the Mactan Export Zone (MEPZ) 2 grounds. Registration fee is at P300 each for the categories 10K, 5K and 1K which is a special category designed for parents carrying their babies in harnesses or body carriers and kiddie runners for ages 10 years old and below.

Negros Province formulates NiE PlanLeandria P. Pagunsan, PIA-Negros Oriental – Members of the Negros Oriental Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC) participated in a four-day training on nutrition in emergencies at the Bethel Guest House organized by the National Nutrition Council-7.

The four-day training covered the emergency management system of national and local governments in preparedness and response to adverse events and frequently experienced disasters affecting the communities and gave emphasis on issuances and standards relevant to nutrition in emergencies.
