Pasig City was the venue of this year’s Regional Nutrition Month Culminating Event held on July 31, 2012 at the covered court of Barangay San Jose. The city government of Pasig led by City Nutrition Committee Chair Mayor Robert “Bobby” C. Eusebio gave all-out support in the conduct of the said event.
Around 500 participants attended the culminating activity composed of Pasig City local officials led by Mayor Bobby C. Eusebio and Bgy. Captain Ronwaldo Angeles; Pasig CNC members led by CNAO Dr. Georgiana Galutera; day care pupils wearing vegetable costumes together with their parents and day care teachers; nutritionists, BNSs and BHWs; members of the Regional Nutrition Committee led by CHD-NCR ARD Adriano P. Suba-an; members of the Regional Management Group as well as delegates from the different LGUs in NCR led by their NAOs and C/DNPCs; and officers of the Association of C/DNPCs of Metro Manila and the Regional BNS Federation.
Barangay Captain Ron Angeles welcomed everyone and was very pleased and excited that their barangay was chosen to be the venue of this important event. NPC Mila V. Federizo also expressed her thanks and appreciation for the support the LGUs and partner agencies have given in the celebration of the 38th nutrition month in Metro Manila. She particularly thanked the nutrition office of Pasig City headed by CNPC Ms. Marissa C. Almario for spearheading the coordination and preparation for the event. Mayor Bobby Eusebio, despite his busy schedule found the time to deliver an inspirational message and have a photo session with the delegates from the different LGUs in the region. ARD Suba-an, in his message, emphasized the importance of eating vegetables and shared innovative ideas in ensuring food security through vegetable production. Other city officials who graced the event also delivered inspirational messages.
The culminating event featured the following: (a) a presentation on urban vegetable gardening, “Mag-Farmville Tayo!”, by Bgy. Captain Ron Angeles; (b) a lively and entertaining mascot presentation by the Pasig City Lingap Bulilit mascots “Paz and Igue” on the importance of waste segregation, hand washing and eating vegetables; (c) ceremonial turn-over of veggie seeds to DepED-NCR represented by Health and Nutrition Section Chief Dr. Ernela Coronel and the Veggie Exhibit Guide to the NAOs represented by CNAO Julie Bernabe, C/DNPCs represented by Ms. Vivian Flor, and Regional BNS Federation represented by its President, Ms. Ching Benosa; (d) launching and distribution of the veggie refrigerator magnets to parents of day care children; and (e) veggie cooking demonstration by Pasig City Tsibug Cooks.
There was also an exhibit showcasing the innovative products of Pasig City and other sponsors. The ice cream cart was also a best seller and the day care children had an enjoyable learning experience from the mascot presentation of Paz and Igue.
A boodle fight over a sumptuous lunch of vegetable dishes capped the culminating event.
