Dr. Eliseo Ponce, a former Director of Bureau of Agricultural (BAR), a retired professor of Leyte State University (LSU) and a well traveled consultant served as the guest speaker and lecturer during the 4 days live-in workshop, as part of his continued support and passion to the cause of extension programs in the country.
The workshop was divided into 5 segments namely:
a) The Philippine's Agriculture Performance
b) The Value Chain Players and Processes
c) Public-Private Extension in the Region Along the Value Chain
d) Organizing Results in the Region and
e)The Catalytic Role of the New Extension Program.
However, prior to the workshop, Dr. Ponce elicited the personal viewpoints of the participants on the aforesaid concerns so they can formulate a better proposal that will be worked out to improve the current status of Agriculture and Fisheries in the Region.
Dr. Ponce stressed on the following key questions namely:
a) How to Make Foods in the Philippines less Expensive than What We Have Now?"
b) "How Can We Improve Agriculture and Fisheries Productivity?";
c) How to Regulate the Rice-Centric Policy to give way for other Staples like White corn and Root crops and
d) How Do We Provide More Income for the Farmers and Fisher Folks to help the participants in the formulation of project proposals for the extension programs. This workshop is to improve the old ways in the Extension program to success.
