The Federation of the Regional Nutrition Action Officers in Davao Region known as Nutrition Action Officers of the Philippines Association (NAOPA) XI has new sets of Officers that will serve for a two (2) year term from CY 2018 to CY 2020. A total of 11 Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs) were nominated last February 15, 2018 during the 1st Quarter NAO’s Meeting at the Microtel Hotel by Wyndam, Lanang, Davao City. The 11 NAOs nominated are the Provincial and City Nutrition Action Officers from 5 provinces and 6 cities in the region for different posts. They will also represent their LGUs in the NAOPA XI. The NAOs present during the 1st Quarter Meeting cast their votes. Ballots were also sent to NAOs who were not present during the meeting in order for them to also cast their votes.

The Regional NAO’s Federation Officers will provide leadership, direction and strengthen the camaraderie of NAOs in Davao Region. They will also ensure that the rights, duties and responsibilities of NAOs are upheld and protected.

The National Nutrition Council XI recently conducted a joint regional meeting for the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days (ECCD-F1K) Program attended by the Nutrition Action Officers of Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental, and participated by the Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) of Region XI held last May 23, 2018 at The Pinnacle Hotel and Suites, Sta. Ana Ave. Davao City.

The meeting was held to provide guidelines for Home Food Production and Local Media Planning reported by Dr. Maria Teresa L. Ungson, to orient participants about Training and Communication Components, Technical Assistance, Monitoring & Evaluation (TAME) tackled by NO III Retsebeth Laquihon, Program Fund Management and Procurement Process discussed by AA VI Maria Liza Salvador for ECCD F1K Program and to discuss its updates and status as reported by the Nutrition Action Officers of Davao del Sur namely: Raffie Redoblado-Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Magsaysay, Corazon Dino- Provincial Nutritionist Dietitian II of Davao del Sur, and Teresita Tapere-Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Hagonoy.

launchingDavao City – The National Nutrition Council XI conducted the Regional Launching of the 43rd Nutrition Month featuring Launching of Nutri-Carenderia on 11 July 2017 at Sutherlang Global Services Philippines, Inc. Compound at Jacinto Extension St., Davao City. It was attended by different nutrition partners, non-government organization, and staff from City Health Office and Barangay Nutrition Scholars of Davao City.

Prior to the launching, a series of interviews from different media partners like ABS-CBN, GMA TV and DXRD 711 Sonshine Radio were done and broadcasted making the people of Davao Region aware of the activity and the launching of Nutri-Carenderia.

Nutri-Carenderia has nine (9) pilot food establishments who participated in the project. Food weighing, caloric counting at the same time labeling was done by volunteer Registered Nutritionist Dietitians from NDAP and PAN Davao. This project aims to offer healthier food items on the menu and provide consumers with initial nutrition information by showing its caloric count on the menu.

First aired and established last November 9, 2010, 97.3 Radyo Kalumonan is now stepping up in addressing malnutrition in San Isidro, Davao Oriental through relevant and comprehensive radio broadcasting, 18 hours a day. It was through the effort of NNC XI and its partners, LGU-San Isidro and Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology by upgrading its broadcast materials and output in line with the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program’s goal in promulgating proper and good nutrition to the people of the Municipality.

A Three-Day Refresher Training was done last April 26, 27, and 28, 2018 participated by the personnel of 97.3 Radyo Kalumonan, delegates from the DOSCST San Isidro and Main Campus-Mati lead by Dr. Roy G. Ponce, Vice President for Research, Development & Extension of DOSCST, who shared about Home Farming & Container Gardening and representatives from all LGU Offices of San Isidro including the BFP, PNP, and AFP that were instructed by Mayor Yu to promote transparency and public service through broadcast media.

Dr. Maria Teresa L. Ungson, Nutrition Program Coordinator of the Region, discussed about Building Self-confidence: In Radio Broadcasting. This topic aimed to develop the interpersonal skills of the participants in doing board work, to conquer mic-fright and how to interact with listeners comprehensively. She also summarized the Philippine Plan of Action 2017 – 2022 and reported about Nutrition in Emergencies which also served as a guide for the LGU in determining their role during unexpected emergencies in the Municipality and how Radyo Kalumonan can be used during disasters.

NO II John Warry R. Fernandez of NNC XI reported about Media Ethics, Roles of Media and People, and facilitated the one-on-one hands-on training on radio broadcasting of the participants in order for them to familiarized themselves in the FM booth.

Station Policies, Political Policies, and an Overview of the Nutriskwela Community Network Program were presented to the participants by Ms. Katherine Villanueva, NO II from the NNC Central Office as almost all of the personnel were new in the station.

DXNQ-FM 97.3 RADYO KALUMONAN is located at the Faculty building, Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST) in San Isidro Campus, Barangay Poblacion, Bato-bato, San Isidro, Davao Oriental.

nedaDavao City – the Davao Regional Development Plan (DRDP) 2017-2022 was launched by the Regional Development Council of Davao Region last 07 July 2017 at SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier, J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City. The DRDP 2017-2022 is anchored on the 0-10 Point Socioeconomic Agenda of President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s Administration which lays down the foundation for inclusive growth, a high-trust and resilient society, and globally-competitive knowledge economy. This will enable Filipinos to achieve their aspiration of Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na buhay.

Regional Road Show was conducted in the morning followed by the launching of DRDP in the afternoon. The activity also featured booth exhibits of different Local Government Units and Government Agencies. The National Nutrition Council showcased the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition, Nutrition Month and Early Childoohd Care and Development Project.

The activity aims to promote awareness to different Regional stakeholders of the socioeconomic directions of the Davao Regional Development Plan. The DRDP has 7 parts, 21 chapters and 3 major pillars; Malasakit (Enhancing Social Fabric), Pagbabago (Reducing Inequality) and Patuloy na Pag-unlad    (Increasing Growth-Potential).


The first Health Summit of Compostela Valley province was held on February 27, 2018 at Tagum City,

Big 8 Corporate Hotel.

The conference confers about the Provincial Health Agenda of Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy. Among topics discussed are the: provincial health situation and challenges, public health, hospital services, maternal, nutrition and HIV/AIDS.

Provincial Governor Jayvee Tyron L. Uy said he wants to improve the access of the people to the the health facilities through enchancing the availability of transportation especially in the province’s geographically isolated and disadvantaged area.

Hon. Vice gov. Manuel “Waykurat” Zamora also led the event and welcomed the participants. Dr.Abdullah Dumama Jr.-Asst. Secretary of Health for Mindanao delivered the key message to the delegates.

Other Important people who contributed their knowledge on the health forum are Dr. Antonio Ybiernas Jr. - PHO Department Head who talked about the public health; Dr. Ferdinand Anthony Soberano- Department Head of PEEMO shared about the hospital services.

Workshops had been conducted as well, which the group of Dr. Lady Jedfeliz Molleno represented by Ms. Joy Fairuz Dinalo- Cluster Head, Health facility Development Unit, DOH RO XI, Dr. Raquel Montejo- Head, Family Health Cluster, DOH RO XI educate about the service delivery network; regional coordinator, National Nutrition Council Dr. Ma. Teresa Ungson discussed the Provincial Nutrition Situation; City Health Officer of Tagum City Dr.Arnel Florendo reported the HIV/AIDS issue and Mr. Raymundo Pajarito-Assistant Provincial Planning Officer tackled the war on drugs and Dr. Raymundo Matalam-Program Manager of Mental Health, DOH region XI was the reactor of the workshop.

Dr.Ungson signed the pledge of Commitment with all other participants.

Mr. Arvin Ablin from department of Health- RO XI and Mr.Rauell Rhaj Santos of World Health Organization-SNI acted as the masters of ceremonies.

The Provincial Summit will be held annually to improve the health situation of the people of Compostela Valley Province.
