Lydio Español, Jr. together with Mayor Jaime Fresnedi and members of the Muntinlupa City Nutrition Committee receiving their Green Banner Award.The National Nutrition Council – NCR of the Department of Health recognized top performing local government units (LGUs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in the National Capital Region for their outstanding performance in nutrition program management and delivery of nutrition services in 2017 during the Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC) held on July 27, 2018 at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City.

The RNAC serves as the culminating event of the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and the Search for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS). It was attended by around 240 participants from the LGUs composed of the Mayors, Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs), members of local nutrition committees (LNCs), BNSs, and other stakeholders.

Participants of the Stakeholders’ Forum: “Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!” conducted by NNC-NCR pledged to take the lead in promoting and advocating for the establishment of food gardens in the households, communities, schools and workplaces.The National Nutrition Council at the National Capital Region (NNC-NCR) encouraged the public to engage in food gardening as one of the effective strategies to improve food security in the households and communities which in turn will contribute to improved nutrition.

This was reiterated during the recently conducted Stakeholders’ Forum held in celebration of the Nutrition Month themed: “Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!”, last July 19, 2018 at the Heritage Hotel, Pasay City.

RNET meetingThe inter-agency Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team of the National Capital Region (RNET-NCR) identified the top performing local government units (LGUs) to receive the 2017 Green Banner and other special awards during the deliberation meetings held on May 23 and June 6, 2018 at the Board/Conference Room of the National Nutrition Council in Taguig City.   

This year’s RNET is chaired by Ms. Lucia Broño of the Philippine Information Agency – NCR (PIA-NCR), vice chaired by Ms. Marlene Navarro of the Grace Family Helper Project with active members from the different government agencies namely: Department of Health – NCRO (DOH-NCRO), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Agriculture – IV – A (DA- IVA), Department of the Interior and Local Government – NCR (DILG-NCR); Department of Social Welfare and Development – NCR (DSWD-NCR), Department of Education – NCR (DepEd-NCR), Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines (NFP), Nutrition Center of the Philippines (NCP) and Rural Improvement Clubs of the Philippines Inc. The NNC-NCR, headed by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo, acts as the secretariat of the RNET.   

Partner NGOs writing their 2018 Nutrition Month activities and programs/projects/ activities aligned in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022.The National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) held its 5th Regional NGO Forum with the theme, “Strengthening GO-NGO Partnership for Nutrition Action in Metro Manila” on 21 June 2018 at the Robbinsdale Hotel in Quezon City.  The forum aims to build linkages and strengthen existing partnerships with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for better nutrition actions in Metro Manila.

The forum was attended by sixteen (16) NGOs: Hapag-asa/Caritas – Novaliches, Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health, Food for the Hungry Philippines, ERDA Foundation, Odyssey Foundation, Unified Hands for the Indigents, Young Focus for Education and Development Foundation, Letnuk Foundation/BNAO Association of Taguig City, Tondo Blessed Hope Bible Baptist Church, Save Palawan Seas Foundation, Children International, Care Channels, Alay Pag-asa Christian Foundation, Muntinlupa Development Foundation, La Proteccion De La Infancia and Children’s Hour. Also present were representatives from six (6) member agencies of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) namely, Commission on Population-NCR, Philippine Information Agency-NCR, Grace Family Helper Project, Innerwheels Club of the Philippines, Save the Children, ABS-CBN Bantay Bata Foundation, and Department of Social Welfare and Development-NCR.

CDNPC learning visit revThe City/District Nutrition Program Coordinators (C/DNPCs) of Metro Manila visited Ilagan City in Isabela on May 15-18, 2018 for their annual Learning Visit.

It was attended by 40 C/DNPCs from the ten (10) local government units in Metro Manila including National Nutrition Council – NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo and Nutrition Officer II Theresa Rivas.

The learning visit provided the members with the opportunity to gain insights and learnings from an outstanding LGU in nutrition program management (NPM) such as Ilagan City, a contender for the 2nd Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Award.
  

shep(Taguig City, 19 June 2018) – Representatives of priority cities and municipality in Metro Manila for the Shepherding Project were convened in a meeting at the NNC Central Office in Taguig City on 19 June 2019.  Also present at the meeting were members of the Regional Nutrition Management Group (RNMG). During the meeting, the cities of Paranaque, San Juan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela and the municipality of Pateros expressed their commitment to the project.

In 2012, the Regional Nutrition Committee of the National Capital Region (RNC-NCR) implemented the Shepherding Project to assist LGUs in improving their nutrition program management resulting to improved nutrition situation.  The NNC-NCR technical staff and selected members of the RNMG act as “shepherds’ or mentors and conduct more frequent monitoring visits to the priority LGUs.
