Flores anchors the program with radio broadcaster Rod Marcelino. Radyo Mo sa Nutrisyon discusses issues about nutrition, health and development.

thumbnail 4In accordance with the implementation of the FOURmula One for Health (F1) Plus strategic policy of Secretary Francisco Duque III, the Department of Health issued on March 5, 2018 Department Personnel Order (DPO) No. 2018-0889 or the “Designation of Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries, and Selected Officials as Heads of Clusters and Technical Units for the Implementation of FOURmula ONE for Health F1 Plus.”

The Department Order provides the functional structure of the DOH to focus its efforts more on critical health interventions. Under this DPO, the National Nutrition Council is included in the Technical Services Cluster with Undersecretary Herminigildo Valle and Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, as cluster head and deputy cluster head, respectively.

Assistant Secretary of Health and NNC Executive Director Maria-Bernardita Flores on Monday participated in a Technical Services Cluster meeting held at the Department of Health and provided a brief presentation of the entire NNC from its history, structure, budget trends, programs, and concerns.

The National Nutrition Council discussed through a meeting on 18 January 2018 a possible partnership with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to implement a dietary supplementary feeding program for pregnant and lactating women, and children six to twenty-three months old in various areas in Mindanao.

As part of its social responsibility for 2018, NGCP intends to mount supplementary feeding in 16 barangays in Mindanao in the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Cotabato, South Cotabato, Surigao del Sur, and Surigao del Norte within the vicinity of the NGCP transmission towers and lines.

The project will also be extended to some barangays in the cities of Davao and Butuan, as well as in Marawi City, which was affected by the recently concluded armed-conflict.

NNC LOGO JPEG FORMAT edited 1The National Nutrition Council met with World Bank’s Program Leader for Human Development Mr. Gabriel Demombynes on 9 January 2018 at the NNC Conference Room, to discuss the proposed study on nutrition in the Philippines and how the results can be used to prioritize policy interventions at the national and local levels.

Assistant Secretary of Health and NNC Executive Director Maria-Bernardita Flores led the NNC team with Deputy Executive Director Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang and the Chiefs of NNC’s technical divisions.

The focus of the study will be along five areas such as the economics of investing in nutrition, drivers of child malnutrition, attitudes and beliefs about nutrition, optimizing the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to address malnutrition, and the linkages of nutrition to agriculture.

dir cornThe National Nutrition Council (NNC) in partnership with Nutrition International (NI) conducted a Partners’ Meeting on 12 January 2018 at the NNC Board Room to discuss how NI’s Technical Assistance Project could facilitate the operationalization of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022.

Various key stakeholders including members of the the NNC Technical Committee, and representatives from the Office of the Vice President, Office of the Cabinet Secretary, UN Organizations, Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development, and the NNC Secretariat attended the meeting.

Assistant Secretary of Health and NNC Executive Director Maria-Bernardita Flores presided the meeting and stressed the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration to achieve the strategic goals of PPAN.
